Hiker, sailor, poet, teacher, and musician--I grew up in Mississippi, moved to Texas, later Louisiana, later Chicago, later Kalamazoo, but now I'm back in Chicago and teach at Indiana University Northwest. I hold a B.A. in English from the University of Dallas, a M.A. in English from LSU, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from LSU. My main interests are contemporary poetry, especially the Language Poets and the experimental poetic tradition; however, I'm also interested in American, Latin American, Italian, and Greek literature.
I edit the e-zine Moria, which publishes experimental poetry and poetics articles, and I am also the editor-in-chief of Cracked Slab Books, a press dedicated to publishing experimental poetry. I curate a reading series, series A, at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. My poetry, articles, poetry reviews, and translations have been published in many countries, including Australia, Italy, the United States, the Czech Republic, Finland, and the Netherlands. Some poets who interest me are Alcaeus, Sappho, Pindar, Theognis, Dante, Sor Juana, Leopardi, Whitman, Neruda, Huidobro, Paz, Vallejo, Levertov, Duncan, Porta, Sanguinetti, and Bernstein. For an interview of me, see Otoliths, The Chicago Postmodern Poetry Calendar, 12 or 20 Questions, I Am Chicago, or MiPo.
